Portuguese fishing boat

The real thing is built from materials at hand - pine trees - many can be seen as derelicts parked high and dry as attractions in front of cafés and restaurants!

Hull shapes belie sailing ancestry but superstructures are often fascinatingly ugly "vegetable crate" creations.

Model built from authentic material, pine, with each strip sawn and planed down to the minute size required - hull construction time 6 months!

Powered by 2 thrifty cassette-recorder motors driving a single shaft via belts.

A view in Danubio's wheelhouse:

Danubio's motors ( power consumption at full speed ahead is around 700 mA )

A few months on (January 2004) Danubio has some more details. Many hours of sailing have added natural weathering to the artificially applied effects.
